Wool Care Instructions

Our Sheepskins are crafted with pride
Our quality is our reputation
You will be able to enjoy your Sheepskin for many years,
provided you follow the care instructions detailed below.

Your carefully selected sheepskin may have been tightly packaged for the journey home and so the wool may appear flattened. Wool fibres are very resilient and will bounce back to their original springy appearance.

A vigorous shake will also help restore the soft, fluffy appearance of the wool. Any fold marks from packaging will disappear once the skin has been removed from the package for several days.

Storage

Should you wish to store your Sheepskin at any time, place it in a cool airy place avoiding direct sunlight. Packaging in plastic bags for an extended period of time is not recommended as the Sheepskin fibres will not breathe and condensation may occur in warm conditions.

Washing

Our unique tanning processes enables your Sheepskin to be easily hand or machine washed. It is important not to use hot water when washing Sheepskins as this may damage the pelt of the Sheepskin.

Hand Washing

Use a mild liquid household detergent in cold or warm water (max 40degreesC/105degreesF).
Do not use soap or washing powders containing enzymes or bleach, or which are alkaline.
Do not use fabric softeners.
Rinse thoroughly in warm water. Hand squeeze as much water from the Sheepskin as possible or spin in the washing machine.
We recommend biodegradable camp soaps and Lanolin based wash products.

Lanolin Wool Wash (enhanced with Eucalyptus). A gentle washing agent for woollens, silks, or any delicate fabrics requiring a soft wash.  Recommended by leading manufacturers as an excellent sheepskin wash.  Free  worldwide airpost  to you

Lanolin Wool Wash 150ml Bottle NZ $14.95  approx $US8.20

Machine Washing

Use the 'wool wash' cycle on your washing machine and wash in warm water (max 40degreesC/105degreesF). Use a mild liquid detergent suitable for washing machines.
Do not use soap or washing powders containing enzymes or bleach, or which are alkaline.

Drying

The Sheepskin may be tumble dried on the 'cool' or 'warm' setting. Do not use 'hot' setting as excessive heat may damage the lambskin. Alternatively, hang the Sheepskin outside to dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight.

Take care not to place the Sheepskin on a radiator, steam pipe or in front of a fan heater as this may damage the Sheepskin. Do not iron or bleach the Sheepskin.

Brushing

After washing, the wool may revert back to its natural curly state. You can help restore the fluffy appearance by brushing the wool while it is wet and again when it is dry. A wire pet brush or comb is suitable.

Dry Cleaning

The sheepskin can also be professionally dry-cleaned using either white spirits or perchloroethylene.

The Advantages of EcoWool

EcoWool is the natural fibre that science cannot match for versatility, practicality and superiority. EcoWool breathes with your body providing warmth during winter, while absorbing your body's moisture during summer.

EcoWool Keeps You Warm - EcoWool guarantees that the little pockets of still air trapped between fibres remain open and maintain a high degree of insulation.

EcoWool is Healthy - Together, EcoWool's insulation and thermal qualities reduce hot spots and help create a dry, well ventilated bed.

EcoWool is Naturally Flame Resistant - EcoWool is renowned for its fire safety. EcoWool is difficult to ignite, does not spread flames easily and has self-extinguishing properties.

EcoWool is Comfortable - EcoWool can absorb up to 30 percent of its own weight of water vapour and transport this through its structure without feeling cold or clammy. This is how EcoWool creates a natural dry zone around the body.

EcoWool is Easy to Care For - EcoWool can be safely dry cleaned.

EcoWool is Value For Money - EcoWool keeps its good appearance through years of wear and regular cleaning. For performance measured over a period of years, wool products are low in cost and therefore excellent value.

We are passionate about wool.  Genuine EcoWool sheepskin rugs are hardwearing, soft, and luxurious.  Retailers can sell similar products at lower prices but they may be poor quality.  It's a bit like buying a leather jacket.  You can get discounted products but the quality is not good.

Our rugs are genuine sheepskin.  That means that it is a tanned leather back.  Sometimes you can buy wool weave rugs that retailers pretend to be sheepskin.  These are imitations and do not last as long.   Some leather backing is cheap and patchy.  Our backing is consistently thick.  This means it is top quality.  We have been in the business for over 16 years and would not compromise our brand and reputation (we do not sell cheap and nasty second grade rugs).  We are very proud of our rugs and other woolen goods.

Firstly a genuine sheepskin has a suede backing. 'Wool weave' is just left over wool woven into a cotton backing.  The suede backing should be very very strong.  If you can rip it with your hands it is low quality. Low quality rugs have a very thin suede backing.

The wool should be soft to touch, and not knotted.  Genuine sheepskin rugs are great to sleep on.  The natural qualities of wool keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Our prices are very competitive and the same quality is selling in other shops for $100's of dollars more. We sell only genuine top quality sheepskin rugs. We have many happy customers and offer a money back guarantee.

Our EcoWool rugs are super soft, natural, and a warm creamy white.  The Bowron Sheepskin Rugs are whiter. It's all in the tanning process.  Both are called "Ivory".

The difference between Bowron and our Sheep World's EcoWool rugs is
mainly about sizing and personal preference.

We stock both Bowron and our EcoWool rugs. We try to give our customers a choice where as most web sites don't offer a choice.  We sell both brands in our store at Warkworth New Zealand and sales are split 50/50 on both brands.
